Hard disk configuration (master slave)
What is a hard disk configuration (master slave)?
A hard drive configuration master slave is a model of communication where a device or process has no directional control over one or more other devices. Once the master/slave relationship is finally established, the direction of control is always from master to the slave. |
How does a hard disk configuration (master slave) work?
The master slave configuration is basically used for sharing purposes when 2 identical motors connected to two different drives are coupled to a common load. One drive is defined as the Master and is configured for running in the Speed Control mode whereas the other defined as Slave is configured for running in Torque control mode. The slave drives simply makes a request to the master slave to check if it is communicating with the computer, if the master drive is idle then it tells the slave drive to go. But if the master drive is communicating with the computer it then tells the slave drive to wait until it is finished and then can tell it to go ahead. |
