Hard disk
What is a hard disk?
A hard disk holds more data than floppy disks. A hard disk can store from 10 to more than a 100 gigabytes. In general, hard disks are less portable than floppies, although it is possible to buy removable hard disks. |
How does a hard disk work?
Hard disks stores information in much higher densities than floppy disks. Magnetic pulses are imprinted onto the surface of the disk by a read/write head which can also then read the data back. |
Capacity
The storage on a hard disk, measured in gigabytes and terabytes. The capacity is derived from the size of your applications, but mostly the amount of data that must be stored. Multimedia files such as graphics, animations and video take up considerably more space than text.

Transfer Rate
The transfer rate on the hard disk is the speed of the data that can be transferred to and from the disk media and is also a function of the recording frequency within it and is normally described in megabytes. The transfer speed of this is typically 160 mb/sec.
